Specialty coffee with an impact!

Our Story

What story can your coffee tell?

I have always been fascinated by coffee — not only its taste and aroma, but also the lives of the people behind it, and its journey from remote regions to our cups in cafés, restaurants, stores, and at home.

Most large coffee shop chains offer blends that mix beans from diverse origins. Even for “single-origin” coffee, we may know the country where it came from, but we often do not know much more about the journey it took to reach our cup. Where and how was that coffee grown and harvested?  How was it processed, and how does it impact the final taste?

Nearly 70–80% of the world’s coffee is produced by smallholder farmers. Do you know their lives? Do you know their stories? My travels across Asia led me to Vietnam — its wonderful people, values, and agricultural heritage. Discovering Hoi An Roastery, their tasty coffee, and their farmer and NGO partnerships, convinced me that this coffee deserves to be shared with Japan!

Hoi An Roastery

Hoi An Roastery was founded in 2015 in the UNESCO world heritage town of Hoi An with the vision to share the authentic essence of Vietnamese coffee with the world.

Hoi An Roastery partners with NGOs to jointly work with smallholder ethnic minority farmers in rural Vietnam, ensuring :
Sustainable organic farming practices,
Hand picking of only ripe red coffee cherries (3 pickings per season),
High quality wet processing, and
Hand sorting
producing the highest quality specialty coffee, with unique taste properties.

Hoi An Roastery ensures fair farmer earnings by eliminating the middlemen, farmer upskilling with other hand crafts that allow farmers to earn additional income off the coffee harvesting season.

Through higher income from coffee and other learned trades, farmers have largely abandoned small animal poaching. This led to the rebound of native animal species in areas where our farms are, according to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

A uniquely crafted roasting profile, prepared by an SCA (specialty coffee association) certified Q Grader to bring out the beans’ excellent taste and aroma qualities.

Hoi An Roastery’s coffee has unique qualities, an exceptionally delicious taste, with a strong social and environmental impact.

At Gharaam, we believe that this coffee brings a unique experience to coffee lovers in Japan.

Arabica and Robusta

Our Coffee Beans

These golden beans are the secret to our success. Through our partnership with Hoi An Roastery, we bring to Japan both Arabica and Robusta coffee beans, each expressing a different side of Vietnam’s fertile soil and climate.

Vietnamese Arabica is particularly rare — representing only around 7% of the country’s total production. Our Arabica coffee is sourced exclusively from the renowned Khe Sanh region in Quang Tri province, where high-altitude and specific climate conditions allow for refined and complex elegant Arabica flavors.

Robusta is deeply rooted in Vietnam’s coffee culture. It offers strength, body, and depth when carefully cultivated and roasted. Our Robusta coffee’s journey begins in Dak Lak, amidst the lush green hills of Vietnam’s Central Highlands.

We also offer espresso blend, combining some of the best qualities of both worlds.
